Which Came First, The Chicken Or The Egg?
Video: Which Came First, The Chicken Or The Egg? Answers
This question is designed to be a paradox. Each answer seems to lead to a new question that contradicts the answer. If we say chicken then what did the chicken come from? How was the chicken born? If we say egg then what laid the egg? What sat on the egg to hatch it?
The answers go in a circle pointing to each other.

This seems to prevent a logical answer until a timeline is created. If we start at the beginning of time, the answer will show itself.
Evolution:
One aspect of the theory of evolution is that creatures evolve slowly over time. We can use this to understand that the creature the chicken evolved from laid eggs. At one point in time the chicken came into being. The creature the chicken evolved from laid eggs that chickens hatched from. So, we can conclude that the egg came before the chicken. What laid the egg? The creature the chicken evolved from.

Creationism:
It seems logical that God created the chicken. It is not likely that God or Adam were sitting on eggs waiting for them to hatch.
Also, Genesis states:
On The Fifth Day God Created:
“every winged bird according to its kind” - Genesis 1:21
So, the answer is Chicken.

Update:
July 14, 2010 - British scientists reported their discovery that chickens need a protein Ovocledidin -17 (OC 17) to lay eggs. Based upon this discovery the scientists concluded that the chicken came first. This is somewhat ironic that science is supporting creationism. Let’s see if anything changes with our answers.
Creationism states that the chicken came first. The science backs this up so no changes.
Evolution states that the egg came first. The discovery also backs up this idea. The creature that the chicken evolved from was an egg layer. The egg layer had this protein or a similar protein and laid the egg that the chicken hatched from. The answer is still the egg.
So are the scientists wrong? Not at all. We can make a modification to the question. Which came first the egg layer or the egg? Again, we can take a look at the evolution timeline. Single celled creatures do not lay eggs, so at a some point in time, the egg layers evolved from non-egg layers. As the creatures evolved they developed more egg laying attributes. Eventually one of these pre-egg layers had an offspring that could lay egg(s). So, the first egg layers were born from non-egg layers. The answer to the modified question is the egg layers came before the egg.

Modified Answers - Backed Up By The New Discovery:
Creationism - Chicken
Evolution (Chicken or Egg) - Egg
