Description:

Voice4Me is designed as a quick and simple way to bring speech to users who have difficulty speaking. When the user clicks on a picture, the computer responds by reading the text assigned to the picture.  For example, if the user clicks on a picture of a moon, the computer may respond by saying “I am tired, it is time for bed.” Voice4Me allows the settings to be customized with pictures and text to meet the needs of the user.  Also, there is a blank text box for the user to type a few sentences at a time for the computer to read.

Although Voice4Me is intended to help users with speech difficulties, there are other uses for this program. Students learning a language can use this program to find pronunciations of words.  Students can also load pictures and type words or phrases to associate with that particular picture. When the picture is clicked, the computer can use its text-to-speech (tts) engine to speak the word (or phrases), as well as, spell the word to the user.  This is great for repetition when learning new words.

Because different devices require different screen resolutions and settings, Voice4Me doesn’t modify the resolutions of the pictures that it holds. It is suggested that image resolutions of a maximum 640 pixels will work best with most computers. Older computers may need smaller resolutions to load pictures at reasonable speeds.  A good batch image resizer/converter, to scale pictures before installing them to Voice4Me, can be found at:

Voice4Me comes with over 200 pictures. Our pictures do not cover all situations. Voice4Me can use most picture formats. Voice4Me can use pictures from digital cameras, graphics programs, Photo CDs, and pictures downloaded from the Internet. The Internet has sites for downloading free pictures that this program can use. We suggest scale/crop the pictures to a maximum of 640 pixels, before loading them into Voice4Me.
