Up to this point, all information, used by the programs could not be saved. When the program was closed all information was lost. To keep information saved, in QBasic, text files must be used.
It is very important to remember that a file has to be closed once the program is done using it. Also, the file can not be open for output and input at the same time.
When a program is opened, it is assigned a number. For example #1 is for the first file open, #2 for the second and so on.
